Baptism
This past Sunday, my daughters were baptised at Gethsemane Episcopal Church in downtown Minneapolis. One of the things that really struck me was that Madison, my four-year-old, seemed to really understand what was happening. Granted, she can't offer an opinion yet on baptismal regeneration, but she understood that what was happening was not just water being poured on her head. She understood that she was taking part in an initiation, that she was formally joining the Christian family. And she understood that her chrismation symbolised her being marked as Christ's own, forever. I'll never forget when, on the way home, she told me that the cross that was traced on her forehead was invisible, but that it would be there forever.
Wow.
